External Parasite Control The RED MITE is a very prolific external parasite of birds which can survive for long periods without feeding. Heavy mite infestations in chickens leads to high levels of stress and can result in anaemia, reduced egg production and , eventually if not treated, death. Additionally mites can often transmit diseases. In common with lice and other parasitic insects, red mite have a waxy hard outer covering (exoskeleton) which once damaged dries out and they die. Therefore one of the best ways to control mites is by using a strong degreasant compound.
